Noel Hoffmann

Noel Hoffmann’s paintings reflect the world around her.  A long time resident of Vermont, she paints dogs in the fields and woods that are native to her home.
“I walk in the woods every day with my dogs.  Even in winter I put on my snow shoes and off we go.   Every tree, every wild grass, every animal track is familiar to me.  They are like old friends that change with the seasons.”
Noel grew up in Washington, D.C.  She studied art at the Maryland Institute of Art in Baltimore Maryland.  She has worked in the fields of theater design, book illustration, interior design and she holds two black belts in the martial arts.  “I’ve always been drawn to things that take years and years to master.”  She moved to Vermont in 1982 where she met her husband.  She’s been there ever since.
“I spent years drawing before I ever picked up a paint brush.  Now, I am lucky enough to paint the two things I am most passionate about, the world of dogs and the fields and woods of Vermont.  It is a rare and beautiful part of the world, from a tiny seed pod to a glorious field of wildflowers, the addition of dogs running through this landscape is perfect.  It is breath taking.  This is what I love.  This is what I paint.”
Noel works in pastel, acrylic glaze (thin transparent layers) and graphite.
